Capability
Electrical power and control, designed, built, installed and commissioned
ITC’s in-house electrical department offers a range of electrical power and control services, including the design and manufacture of a large range of electrical equipment such as starter panels and control systems, as well as installation works. These services are available for new builds, refurbishments, repairs and recertification of equipment, and can be performed on site as required.
The work regularly extends into hazardous area applications, with ATEX build capability supporting equipment destined for offshore, subsea and other classified zones. It sits alongside ITC’s own rental fleet, which includes units rated for ATEX Zone 1 and Zone 2, so electrical and hydraulic control design are handled by teams who understand both sides of the system rather than just the wiring.
Whether it is a new starter panel, a system monitoring safety interlock, a direct or soft start arrangement, or bringing an older control panel up to current recertification requirements, ITC’s electrical department can design, build, install and commission the work, on site or at the Oldmeldrum workshop.

What ITC builds
Electrical and control equipment ITC has built
ITC’s electrical work is rarely just wiring. Most of it is the control system for hydraulic equipment ITC has also designed, built or maintains.

Control panels and cabinets
Built, wired and function tested at ITC before they leave the workshop.

ATEX rated enclosures
Hazardous area panels for equipment destined for classified zones.

Remote and tablet operation
Panels operated remotely from a rugged Zone 2 tablet, with manual operation retained.

Skid mounted control packages
Control equipment built into the skid it operates, ready to lift and run.

Power packs and starters
Electric and diesel driven power packs, with the starting and control gear to match.

Installation and commissioning
Installed and commissioned on site, then handed over working.
How an electrical job runs
From specification to a commissioned system
Specify
ITC inspects the existing panel or reviews the requirement, and agrees every feature and function needed.
Design
The design team drafts the proposed system for final review and sign off before manufacturing starts.
Build and test
Manufacture, assembly and operational function testing at ITC’s own facilities.
Install
Installation, commissioning and recertification, on site or offshore as required.

Case study · Specialised Hydraulic Control Panel
ATEX certified, tablet operated, built to a mobilisation date
A global oil field service company needed a significantly more operator friendly and updated hydraulic control panel for one of their premier technologies, to be deployed on a specialist marine project near Japan. The unit had to be mounted in a 2.7-1 DNV frame, ATEX certified, and remotely operated from a rugged Zone 2 tablet with the option to operate manually.
ITC made a thorough inspection of the legacy control panel and held review meetings with the service company’s operational and engineering teams, so the previous panel’s limitations and every required feature and function were fully understood. The design team then drafted the proposed new system for final review and sign off by the client, prior to manufacturing, assembly and operational function testing.
The new hydraulic control unit was built and fully function tested on schedule, to meet the required mobilisation date.
The HPU puts all of our other units to shame. We are so impressed with the work that ITC carried out for us and we are now looking into getting all of our original units made up to a similar spec.Operations Manager, global oil field service company

Accreditation

ITC has been an ISO 9001 accredited company since 2012. In 2018 ITC passed UKAS accreditation by DNV-GL for its Integrated Management System, covering Quality (ISO 9001:2015), Environment (ISO 14001:2015) and Health & Safety (ISO 45001). All electrical and control work is controlled through that system, whether the job is a panel recertification or a complete control system built from scratch.
Sectors
Electrical and control services for every sector ITC serves
ITC has worked across North East Scotland and globally, designing and building new equipment, repairing and refurbishing, and supplying parts.
Common questions
Electrical and control questions, answered
Can ITC build for hazardous areas?
Yes. ITC has ATEX build capability and has delivered ATEX certified control panels for offshore and marine deployment. ITC’s own rental fleet includes units rated for ATEX Zone 1 and Zone 2.
What electrical equipment does ITC manufacture?
Starter panels, control systems, system monitoring safety interlocks and direct or soft start arrangements, along with the installation works that go with them.
Can ITC recertify an existing panel?
Yes. Services cover new builds, refurbishments, repairs and recertification of equipment, and can be performed on site as required.
Can a panel be operated remotely?
Yes. ITC has built control panels operated remotely from a rugged Zone 2 tablet, with the option to operate manually retained.
Does ITC install and commission as well as build?
Yes. Installation works are part of the service, on site or at the Oldmeldrum workshop.
Who handles the hydraulic side of the system?
The same company. Electrical and hydraulic control design are both in-house, so one team is responsible for the whole system rather than just the wiring.
