Capability
Design and project management, by our own engineering team
Our in-house design team designs hydraulic and electrical systems, from workshop HPUs and renewables test rigs to downhole tools and diver umbilical reelers.
Our design engineers do the CAD drawing and the stress analysis. We can work to a drawing you already have, or draw up the design to your requirements.
The same team manages the project: planning, budget, documentation and the function testing at the end. All of it runs under our DNV accredited QA system, and what we design is built in our own workshops.

What we design
Systems we design
We design hydraulic and electrical systems, and most of what we design is built in our own workshops.

Hydraulic power units
HPUs for workshop, industrial and offshore use.

Reelers and winches
Umbilical reelers and winches, sized to the deck space available.

Downhole and intervention tools
Including our own conductor and casing removal jack, designed here for decommissioning work.

Diver umbilical reelers
Understood to be the first NORSOK U100 compliant, third-party certified diver umbilical reeler.

Subsea deployment skids
Skids and structures for subsea deployment.

Hydraulic control systems
Control panels, including ATEX certified units, function tested before delivery.
How a project runs
From kick-off to function test
Kick-off
ITC’s engineering department runs the kick-off meeting to understand the requirement, including lessons learned from previous systems.
Design
Concepts are developed with CAD drawing, FE and stress analysis, then reviewed with you, and with the certifying authority where a standard applies.
Plan
A project plan details every key manufacturing milestone that has to be met, with resource allocation, estimating and budgeting managed alongside it.
Build and test
Manufacture, assembly and full function testing, with all project documentation controlled through ITC’s DNV accredited QA system.

Case study · U100 Diver Umbilical Reeler
Designed to a standard nothing had been built to
A global Tier 1 marine solutions provider required a NORSOK U100 compliant diver subsea habitat umbilical winch to meet a contractual commitment. The umbilical combines water, gas, electric and fibre optic lines. No such compliant system had been designed or built.
ITC’s engineering team reviewed the requirements and developed two concepts that would enable compliance with the U100 standard. Both were discussed with the certifying authority, and a workshop was held with the client to review the merits and risks of each option before the full design was developed and finalised.
The new design was successfully built and tested in time for the client’s full system integrity testing, and is understood to be the first NORSOK U100 compliant and third-party certified diver umbilical reeler.
This was an excellent job and ITC kept us fully up to date on progress. I wish all parts of the project had been this easy.Client senior project manager, U100 Diver Umbilical Reeler

Accreditation

ITC has been an ISO 9001 accredited company since 2012. In 2018 ITC passed UKAS accreditation by DNV-GL for its Integrated Management System, covering Quality (ISO 9001:2015), Environment (ISO 14001:2015) and Health & Safety (ISO 45001). All design and project management work is controlled through that system, whether the job is a one-off design study or a full build programme.
Sectors
Sectors we work in
ITC has worked across North East Scotland and globally, designing and building new equipment, repairing and refurbishing, and supplying parts.
Common questions
Design and project management questions, answered
Can ITC design equipment from a blank sheet?
Yes. ITC’s in-house engineering design team produces bespoke solutions, including equipment built to a standard nothing had previously been designed to, such as the first NORSOK U100 compliant diver umbilical reeler.
Does ITC manage the build as well as the design?
Yes. Project planning, resource allocation, estimating and budgeting, project documentation, stakeholder engagement and the management of internal and external project teams are handled by the same team that draws the equipment.
What quality system does the design work run under?
ITC’s DNV accredited QA system. ITC has been ISO 9001 accredited since 2012, and in 2018 passed UKAS accreditation by DNV-GL for its Integrated Management System covering ISO 9001:2015, ISO 14001:2015 and ISO 45001.
What kinds of systems has ITC designed?
Workshop HPUs, renewables test rigs, downhole tools and diver umbilical reelers, along with combined HPU and reeler packages, subsea deployment skids and ATEX certified hydraulic control panels.
Can ITC work to a drawing we already have?
Yes. ITC can work to your design, or the design team can draw up plans to your requirements. Both routes run through the same project management and quality process.
